Film Poster Analysis

The background of this ‘New Moon’ Twilight film poster is in sepia. This makes the main three characters at the front and middle of the poster stand out amounts everything else, this could be telling us that this film is going to be focusing on these three characters. With the lighting there is a main light which shines and draws your attention highlighting their facial expressions. Bella(the only girl)’s facial expression is giving off the feeling of her looking worried and confused, this is a whole other meaning to the story as we could interpret that maybe she’s the cause for the two males looking uncomfortable and angry. Bella is also looking straight ahead rather than facing any of the two other males. Her arm is placed on one of the males arm though this could be for support or comfort this emphasising her vulnerability. The thick mist all round the bottom and parts of the side creates this mystery and eerie, supernatural feeling to this poster and this helps exaggerate the theme of this film. The title and headings in this poster is in a yellowy golden colour a bit similar to the moon colour, it is a quite bold so stands out in the sepia background however the writing is simple yet it is easy to read and effective. Giving you the feeling of it being old and rustic. The date of when the film is released is a vitally important part to this poster as it is one of the reasons this poster is advertising this film. All three of the main characters are wearing dark clothing giving off this gloomy look and edge to this poster. Edward the guy on the left has his back to the other two as if he’s the outcast and he looks very un-impressed because of it. The two males both look uncomfortable and angry with bland facial expressions this shows the tension between all three characters especially the two main males. The trees in the background gives the sense of mystery and darkness, the tree’s also become getting less clearer as they get further back. This gives the whole poster a feeling of uncertainty. The moon is bright and yellow standing out in the poster considering it is in the sky and a smaller feature this shows the moon must have some importance in this film and considering it has ‘moon’ in the title.

In this ‘The dark Knight’ Poster for the new batman film, the main protagonist is the ‘joker’ who is a vitally important part of the film. We can hardly see him as it is blurred and misty, as though he’s behind a glass wall which has steamed up. Anyone who knows batman knows the joker is crazy and wears make up of some sort over his face and that his mouth has been cut wider. This is clever as we have a shot of him drawing on his own mouth in more detail in what looks like or could be blood? Next to it on the signature phrase of the joker. ‘Why so serious?’ this is said numerous times throughout the film. In this poster it is kept quite simple which just the one character in a bluey dull colour with the background grey/blue and dull. With just the tag line and his mouth in bold red.
In this ‘SAW VI’ poster we have the background in a black rusty type look giving it this dark uneven look about it. The circular red and grey twirl is familiar to the ‘saw’ watchers as it is used various times in the film as an iconic symbol. The most common place we see it is on the little ‘saw’ doll man’s cheeks.  This is the 6th saw so not much detail is needed as people would know what it’s about and what has happened previously. We have people what looks like to be attached and trapped to a spinning wheel which has the iconic ‘saw’ horror feature and they look dirty, weak and trapped looking vulnerable as we are looking down at them on this poster. The tag line ‘The game comes full circle’ is a comparison to the circle spinning wheel that goes in a circle. We have the sposensered productions on the bottom with ‘twisted pictures’ wrapped in bard wire, and ‘BLOODY discusting.com’lionsgate. This has a small rounded saw behind it and blood outlining the word ‘bloody’. It doesn’t even say ‘saw’ in this poster it is only titled ‘VI’ but we the audience know that’s the symbols for ‘saw’ films. And underneath it, it says Halloween. Which means it is out then.

In this poster for ‘INDENTITY’ it has a simple white background. However this works because the hand print in black stands out, showing that it has an importance and this also goes with the title as people have their own identities by their finger prints. The hand print is in mostly black however it goes have bits of red in it, this could be blood? This helps to create the horror feel to this film. The tag line ‘The secret lies within’ is clever because within someone’s handprints we know their identity. This is a deeper look into the film. We have a couple of lines about the film in black and red. Right at the bottom it says ‘COMMING SOON’ as this would be a poster as a teaser to the audience that this film is coming out in the near future.
In this poster for the film ‘The Ugly Truth’, the background is in plain white, this poster does not include a large amount of images or texts. The image is over a female stick person one side separated by a black line horizontal from the male stick person; these images are the symbols we see on the female and male toilets in a public place. So the audience would be pretty familiar with the picture. However there is a twist, there is a red heart in the woman’s head and the red heart is in the male’s private area. This is trying to put the message across that women think and love with their heads and men think and love with their private area their ‘manhood’s’. Above the male and women figure we have the two actors that are playing these characters named. And bellow underneath the title we have COMING SOON which is in capitals to draw attention.
