Film magazine Analysis.

The logo at the top of this film magazine ‘The modern Guide to Movies’ This shows that the magazine is updated and modern keeping up with all the new latest film information. I will include a modern slogan in my magazine as this is key in many film magazines as its their own way of selling their magazines better. This is why i will include a slogan in my magazine. The main masthead title ‘FILM’ looks like it is in metal and because it is busted up and broken and bent gives it that action movie feel. This is also complimented by the main protagonist ‘Angelina Jolie’ who is in all black holding a gun looking serious. Having a famous actress celebrity sells the magazine more, the photo of her is strong and dominant and she is taking up most of the space on the cover. background to this magazine is blurry and it has that look of what things and objects look like when you’re going fast paced past it, this whole front cover of this magazine is given off an action movie type feel. This action type based idea could be because it is trying to advertise the newest action movie featuring Angelina Jolie in ‘Salt’. the word 'SALT' is in capitals as its the name of the film trying to be sold on the front cover, and the fact its linned and not a bold colour makes it more eyecatching and different. The background of this magazine is also a firey red colour again complimenting the genre of action and volience. The snippets of information laid out around the main figgure is a common converntion of how a film layout is. The '100 coolest things in movies ever' text, also adds more interest to the front page, and with the catchy other lines and sayings short and to the point makes this magazine easier to read and is more enjoyable.

In this film magazine, The main photo is of two characters from the new film ‘Avatar’ This is because they are the two main attractions to this new recently weekly/monthly magazine. This lets the readers know that the main attraction in this magazine is this issue. The photo also over laps the main masthead title, this makes the photo more of the attraction as it is in the foreground and it shows to readers that people should know what this magazine is called as its not bold in front of everything instead it is displayed behind and more subtly. This makes the page look less boring. The main three colours of this magazine front cover is, blue, white and yellow. The word AVATAR is written in capital letters to draw attention to it and the word ‘exclusive’ and the word ‘secrets of’ is used to intrigue people. Underneath the headings there is additional information about what is in this article, this is to attract people to buy the magazine and read what’s inside. This is a common convention of a film magazine. This film magazine displays the date, price and issue number of magazine which is what all film magazines include and is what I need to include in my magazine. Film magazines arn’t just purely on the films it is also on the advertising and other slightly off topic information so you will sometimes find other details featured on the front covers. The title ‘entertainment’ is in bold yellow which makes it stand out more even though it is behind the picture featured.

In this film magazine ‘Empire’ the main feature of this cover is ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and with that Johnny Depp who plays captain jack sparrow is the front main protagonist in the photo. Just as total film magazine does, empire uses its image to overlap its main title. I quite like this feature and might use this for my film magazine. Empire is in bold, capital and red. This makes it stand out even when it is behind the main image. It makes the magazine more eyes catching when you fill different parts of it with more short lines of information around the magazine. This makes it look busy and a good read and this is why the small area of spaces tends to include extra pieces of text to fill it. The front magazines colour scheme is red, yellow, black and white. This makes the cover look bold but exciting yet still professional and not tacky. Altering the captions, Sizes and colour of texts separates them and makes it easier to read. The publisher/author of the magazine wants this magazine to look new and exciting, and by making it more modern and future referred, They have promoted the magazine of being the ‘ESSENTIAL 2011 PREVIEW’ in a large font. Variation in the font sizes in magazines helps draw the audience’s attention.

In this film magazine front cover of ‘JADESCREEN’, The type font of texts is set out and has the look of a computer type font or some sort of technological data place giving this film magazine the feeling of action, technological, and clever. More like a spy kind of feel. The tag line is in red instead of white this could be to draw attention or because of being in bold red could be showing a sign of ‘blood’ which is included in most action/horror films.  You have the website printed smaller in the top right hand corner, you have the vol. 6 issue 1 on the top of the magazine so readers know what issue they are reading. The main photo is placed in the middle of the magazine taking up all the space it is issued with. The photo is of a man with his hand placed on his face, the difference here is that his hand has another face on it, in a serious manner and we can see his actual face behind the hand is wrickled meaning he is smiling, this other face could be someone else or it could be him, giving off this theme of him having another side to this main character, the background is dark and the only thing in light is his face, with not very bold bright  colours and we see cuts on his face. I like this photo of this film magazine very much and would like to base my film magazine involving some kind of clever photography that shows a twist. The colour scheme of this film magazine is red, black and white.

In this empire film magazine, the theme of this issue is ‘The dark Knight’ We have the joker as the main character and theme of this magazine taking up the whole background. The colour scheme for this film magazine is green, red, purple and white. Many of the fonts are in a style of being spray painted which gives the feeling of the joker as he doesn’t play by the rules and does what he wants and you tend to get graffiti sprayed on places by people who don’t care about their environment. In a kind of written text in white you have a speech by someone saying “HE’S A COLD BLOODED, MASS-MURDERING CLOWN!” Empire is in bold red as it is the title, however as we assume many people know what this magazine is, the empire is placed behind the main character of the photo. The price, issue, date etc is placed in a small font just above the ‘M’ in empire. This is so the readers know how much the magazine is. The more information tag lines is placed in the right bottom corner to give more information of what is included in this magazine issue, this is to attract the readers so they dont just think the magazine is all about 'The Dark Knight' The bar code is on the far left bottom corner. This is a feature i need to include in my film magazine.

Film Poster Analysis

The background of this ‘New Moon’ Twilight film poster is in sepia. This makes the main three characters at the front and middle of the poster stand out amounts everything else, this could be telling us that this film is going to be focusing on these three characters. With the lighting there is a main light which shines and draws your attention highlighting their facial expressions. Bella(the only girl)’s facial expression is giving off the feeling of her looking worried and confused, this is a whole other meaning to the story as we could interpret that maybe she’s the cause for the two males looking uncomfortable and angry. Bella is also looking straight ahead rather than facing any of the two other males. Her arm is placed on one of the males arm though this could be for support or comfort this emphasising her vulnerability. The thick mist all round the bottom and parts of the side creates this mystery and eerie, supernatural feeling to this poster and this helps exaggerate the theme of this film. The title and headings in this poster is in a yellowy golden colour a bit similar to the moon colour, it is a quite bold so stands out in the sepia background however the writing is simple yet it is easy to read and effective. Giving you the feeling of it being old and rustic. The date of when the film is released is a vitally important part to this poster as it is one of the reasons this poster is advertising this film. All three of the main characters are wearing dark clothing giving off this gloomy look and edge to this poster. Edward the guy on the left has his back to the other two as if he’s the outcast and he looks very un-impressed because of it. The two males both look uncomfortable and angry with bland facial expressions this shows the tension between all three characters especially the two main males. The trees in the background gives the sense of mystery and darkness, the tree’s also become getting less clearer as they get further back. This gives the whole poster a feeling of uncertainty. The moon is bright and yellow standing out in the poster considering it is in the sky and a smaller feature this shows the moon must have some importance in this film and considering it has ‘moon’ in the title.

In this ‘The dark Knight’ Poster for the new batman film, the main protagonist is the ‘joker’ who is a vitally important part of the film. We can hardly see him as it is blurred and misty, as though he’s behind a glass wall which has steamed up. Anyone who knows batman knows the joker is crazy and wears make up of some sort over his face and that his mouth has been cut wider. This is clever as we have a shot of him drawing on his own mouth in more detail in what looks like or could be blood? Next to it on the signature phrase of the joker. ‘Why so serious?’ this is said numerous times throughout the film. In this poster it is kept quite simple which just the one character in a bluey dull colour with the background grey/blue and dull. With just the tag line and his mouth in bold red.
In this ‘SAW VI’ poster we have the background in a black rusty type look giving it this dark uneven look about it. The circular red and grey twirl is familiar to the ‘saw’ watchers as it is used various times in the film as an iconic symbol. The most common place we see it is on the little ‘saw’ doll man’s cheeks.  This is the 6th saw so not much detail is needed as people would know what it’s about and what has happened previously. We have people what looks like to be attached and trapped to a spinning wheel which has the iconic ‘saw’ horror feature and they look dirty, weak and trapped looking vulnerable as we are looking down at them on this poster. The tag line ‘The game comes full circle’ is a comparison to the circle spinning wheel that goes in a circle. We have the sposensered productions on the bottom with ‘twisted pictures’ wrapped in bard wire, and ‘BLOODY discusting.com’lionsgate. This has a small rounded saw behind it and blood outlining the word ‘bloody’. It doesn’t even say ‘saw’ in this poster it is only titled ‘VI’ but we the audience know that’s the symbols for ‘saw’ films. And underneath it, it says Halloween. Which means it is out then.

In this poster for ‘INDENTITY’ it has a simple white background. However this works because the hand print in black stands out, showing that it has an importance and this also goes with the title as people have their own identities by their finger prints. The hand print is in mostly black however it goes have bits of red in it, this could be blood? This helps to create the horror feel to this film. The tag line ‘The secret lies within’ is clever because within someone’s handprints we know their identity. This is a deeper look into the film. We have a couple of lines about the film in black and red. Right at the bottom it says ‘COMMING SOON’ as this would be a poster as a teaser to the audience that this film is coming out in the near future.
In this poster for the film ‘The Ugly Truth’, the background is in plain white, this poster does not include a large amount of images or texts. The image is over a female stick person one side separated by a black line horizontal from the male stick person; these images are the symbols we see on the female and male toilets in a public place. So the audience would be pretty familiar with the picture. However there is a twist, there is a red heart in the woman’s head and the red heart is in the male’s private area. This is trying to put the message across that women think and love with their heads and men think and love with their private area their ‘manhood’s’. Above the male and women figure we have the two actors that are playing these characters named. And bellow underneath the title we have COMING SOON which is in capitals to draw attention.
