Blue Valentine:
In this short 2 minute teaser trailer, It includes a main scene throughout the whole trailer which has the sound carry on from begining during credits through till the end including having that sound during the random montage shots picked out from the film which one alone is about 1 to 3 seconds long. The music is amplified and much clearer in that scene as it is the main soundtrack to this teaser trailer. You have the common green screen information at the begining as you normally would for a trailer and then in this trailer you have the title credit of TWC, it then includes three festivals this film won at which said 'Official selection CANNES festival' 'Official selection SUNDANCE festival' 'Official selection TORONTO festival' before leading into the main scene that carrys this whole trailer through till the end. There is about 20 shots altogether thats if you dont include the credits and titles and only count that main scene that pops up various times in the piece once. The camera is normally postioned quite close up or in medium shots. The camera is also handheld throughout as we can see it slightly shake when still but this creates the right mood and style for this film as it feels more realistic and as the acting is very real aswell both story line and camera shots really correlate together well. Giving this real feeling of it being an independant film. And not a mainstream 'hollywood' special effects type film. The shots consist of different parts of the story and we see in the montage shots at the begining that they are both smiling, hugging and kissing, but as the different shots go on we start seeing them cry or argue or look upset, and without them saying anything in the short montage shots we can see that this story might just not have the typical happy ending we all hope for. There is a title credit shot at the end saying 'Academy award Nominee: Ryan Gosling' in white letters with a black background then a close up shot of him then another title credit follows with 'Academy award Nominee: Michelele Williams' with a close up shot of her following. Before continuing back to the main shot once again. The last two titles inbetween montage shots are 'BLUE VALENTINE' and 'comming soon'. They both have a black background in white writting in simple text.
In the 'Paranormal Activity 2' teaser trailer, Its shots are set out as though it has been caught on cctv and a handheld camera placed in various places, this is because this film is a horror and it is trying to create that feeling of it being real rather then the standard filming shots. This is a clever and effective way of making a low budget very scary film making it look as realistic as you possibly can as we believe cctv normally to be truthful. The beginning of the clip shows the last related scene from the first paranormal activity this shows the audience it could be picking up where it left off in the second one. The teacher trailer includes a crackly flashing change an example to explain what i mean is when your on a TV channel that has no service that fuzzy look is used to put together the different shots. This gives the teaser trailer i more realistic look to making it a CCTV footage. we get images of various film watchers in what looks like a darked out cinema room. this shows the audience looking scared and screaming in some clips. this trailer is really persuading its watchers that it is a successfully scary film and this is how they tempt and advertise there audience as you know that teaser trailers are really just to get the audiences attention to what is in store for them in the future. There is text to tell you what is in store which is in a black background and plain white texts. You have the various shots of the house, inside and out. There is no music the sounds and noises in the house hold the tension throughout the trailer. The ending clip with the flashing 2 which then has words appear either side of it to complete the main title flash as though the electric is being tampered with, this is to make it a more scarier feel.
HARD CANDY: This is about a 14 year old girl who is talking to a charming older photographer man on the internet. She suspects he is a pedophile and she ends up going to his home in an attempt to expose him for what he truley is it is a twisted but good story line. This is not a teaser trailer but i have anaylized this trailer because my teaser trailer is based on a young girl who is talking to a much older man on the internet and this man, we will see in flashes of my trailer, becomes dangerous. There is many aspects of this film i like and have decided to base my shots on. I like how the use of the instant messaging has been used and i will use the larger screen view to see my shot . I also like the realism this trailer posesses, the way its filmed and its low budget gives this story line a much more of a look that insinuates the story is real, which is in some way true, as 'pedophilla' is a messed up matter that is with some people in this world we live in. This trailer starts with a green screen insinuating its age restriction credits, then lionsgate appears in the shape of black blinds folded and coming together we hear a wind sound and the sound of a key pad being pressed on a computers key board, we then side a close up shot of a computer screen and an instant messaging conversation. It clicks off as if we hear the computer signing off and the screen goes black, i like this idea and i will include a black screen in my teaser trailer as i feel it makes the audience listen to the important sounds and makes them more wary and paying more attention. the next shot is of an older man looks about in his late 30's early 40's approaching a smaller person as we just see the top part of the back of her head as he is much taller and looking down and the camera is firstly focusing on him. The camera then switches to a lower view and puts the girl 'hayley' in centre frame and as she is turning around and talking the camera is getting closer to her face. there is no actual soundtrack music you would call 'chart music' it is just long held notes and sounds that make the audience feel warey and the shots of him and her are normally close up with some medium shots this is to make us focus on their behaveour because his behavour and hers towards eachother is crucial in this film. We have the slow motion shots of them looking at one another in two different shots this is to create the tension as we are riding in his car. Their is a shot of his house which from how the wind and background scenery is moving you can see it has been fast winded this is to show the passing of how much time has gone on. The blind effect appears again twice to show this film has been at festivals. I get the feeling this filmmaker has used the blind effects as blinds can let people see alot but its so easy to turn then into a solid wall stopping people from seeing as if they have two sides to them, this could be showing the audience theirs two sides to these characters or one or infact there is a hidden secret that looks like it wants to be shut away and not opened. from 1.55 seconds to 2.08 seconds the shots and images are fast and short i like this because it creates tension and makes the overall film look much more interesting and packed with action the fast moving pase makes the audience really have to concertrate and i feel i want to include short fast shots in my teaser trailer to create impact. This trailer has given me many good different ideas to what i would want my film to look like.
